  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (strained or thick yogurt)
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or mint)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

About the dish:

Tzatziki is a popular Greek sauce or dip that is refreshing, creamy, and packed with flavors. It is made with strained yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil, and herbs. Tzatziki is a versatile condiment that can be served alongside grilled meats, as a dip for pita bread or vegetables, or used as a dressing for salads. Here's a recipe to make Tzatziki:

Recipe:

  1. Start by grating the cucumber using a box grater or a food processor. Once grated, place the cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out the excess moisture
  2. In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, minced garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and lemon juice.
  3. Stir in the chopped fresh dill (or mint) and season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasonings according to your preference.
  4. Mix all the ingredients together until well combined.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the Tzatziki for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together
  6. Before serving, give the Tzatziki a good stir and taste to check the seasoning. Adjust if needed.
  7. Serve the Tzatziki chilled as a dip with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a sauce with grilled meats or gyros.
  8. Tzatziki is known for its cool and creamy texture, combined with the refreshing flavors of cucumber, garlic, and herbs. The tangy yogurt and hint of lemon juice provide a pleasant balance to the richness of the sauce. It adds a burst of freshness to any dish and is a beloved part of Greek cuisine
